University of Denver Gymnastics Meet, February, 3, 2018

During the 2017-2018 University of Denver Gymnastics season, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph four meets held at the Hamilton Gymnasium while I was studying photojournalism.

This experience affected me greatly and was a key to my decision to focus on sports photography. This was the first time I photographed college sports and it was quite overwhelming both in terms of the craft (very lacking) and also what I was witnessing. All of the photos were taken with a 24-70mm f/2.8 or 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

I recently re-posted some of the photos I selected back in 2018 on my updated website, but I decided to go back and look at the original photos I took for the meet that took place on February 3, 2018. I was astounded not at the quality of the photos I took, which wasn’t that great, but at the incredibly close perspective I was afforded on the gymnastics floor. Many times I was right next to the apparatus coach or a few feet from the action.

Many have various issues (color balance, eetc.)  but they still bring back fond memories. Below are a few photos I selected to in an attempt to demonstrate the breathtaking view I was afforded. That experience remains one of the most memorable.
